What is the area of this trapezoidal garden? (All measurements are in cm)

Solution

In trianlge BDC,

$$DC^2=13^2-12^{2\ }=25$$

DC = 5

In triangle AEF,

AF = 12

$$EF^2=13^2-12^{2\ }=25$$

EF = 5

In Trapezium ABCE, AB = 15, EC = 15+5+5 = 25

Area of trapezium = $$\frac{1}{2}\left(sum\ of\ parallel\ side\right)\times\ height $$

Area of garden = $$\frac{1}{2}\times\ 40\times\ 12\ =\ 240\ $$ sq.cm.
