Question 12

Two cans of milk contain 25% water and 50% water respectively. How much milk must be taken from the two cans to get 12 litres of milk so that it will contain water and milk in the ratio 3 : 5?

Solution

Let say ,x ltr taken from first can and y ltr taken second can.

So, x+y=12........(1)

And, milk in first can =0.75x and water=0.25x.

in second can ,milk=0.50y and water=0.50y.

So, (0.75x+0.50y)/(0.25x+0.50y)=5/3.

or,2.25x+1.5y=1.25x+2.5y

or,x=y.

So,2x=2y=12.

or,x=y=6.

A is correct choice.
