Question 111

By selling a product for Rs 100/- how much profit was earned ?
(I)20% profit would have been earned if it had been sold for Rs 90/-
(II)The profit was one-third of the purchase price.

Solution

S.P. = 100, we need to find the profit.

I : if S.P = 90, => profit % = 20%

=> $$\frac{90 - C.P.}{C.P.} * 100 = 20

=> 6 * C.P. = 450 => C.P. = 75

Therefore, Profit = 100 - 75 = Rs. 25

Thus, I alone is sufficient.

II : Let C.P. = 3x

=> Profit = 3x / 3 = x

=> 100 - 3x = x [Since, S.P. - C.P. = Profit]

=> x = 25 = Profit

Thus, II alone is sufficient.
