Instructions

In each of the questions a pair of equations is given. You have to find out the values of x and y and give answer.

Question 107

I. $$4x^2 - 4x - 3 = 0$$ II. $$4y^2 + 12y +5 =0$$

Solution

I. $$4x^2 - 4x - 3 = 0$$

implies $$4x^2 - 6x + 2x - 3 = 0$$

(2x + 1) (2x-3) = 0

So, x = -1/2 or 3/2

II. $$4y^2 + 12y +5 =0$$

implies $$4y^2 + 10y + 2y +5 =0$$

(2y + 1) ( 2y + 5) = 0

y = -1/2 or -5/2

So,$$ x \geq y$$
