In each of the following questions, a question is followed by information given in three statements. You have to study the question alongwith the statements and decide the information given in which of the statement (s) is necessary to answer the question.
What is the cost of flooring the rectangular hall ?
I. Length and the breadth of the hall are in the respective ratio of 3 : 2.
II. Length of the hall is 48 metres and cost of flooring is Rs. 850/- per square metre.
III. Perimeter of the hall is 160 metres and cost of flooring is Rs. 850/- per square metre.
Since, we need both dimensions and cost of flooring, each statement alone is insufficient.
I & II : Let length = $$3x$$ and breadth = $$2x$$
=> $$3x = 48$$
=> $$x = \frac{48}{3} = 16$$
=> length = 48 m and Breadth = 32 m
=> Area of floor = $$48 \times 32 = 1536 m^2$$
$$\therefore$$ Cost of flooring = $$1536 \times 850 = Rs. 13,05,600$$
Thus, I & II together are sufficient.
II & III : Length = 48 m
=> Perimeter = $$2 (48 + b) = 160$$
=> $$48 + b = \frac{160}{2} = 80$$
=> $$b = 80 - 48 = 32$$ m
=> Area of floor = $$48 \times 32 = 1536 m^2$$
$$\therefore$$ Cost of flooring = $$1536 \times 850 = Rs. 13,05,600$$
Thus, II & III together are sufficient.
I & III : Let length = $$3x$$ and breadth = $$2x$$
=> Perimeter = $$2 (3x + 2x) = 160$$
=> $$5x = \frac{160}{2} = 80$$
=> $$x = \frac{80}{5} = 16$$
=> length = 48 m and Breadth = 32 m
=> Area of floor = $$48 \times 32 = 1536 m^2$$
$$\therefore$$ Cost of flooring = $$1536 \times 850 = Rs. 13,05,600$$
Thus, I & III together are sufficient.
$$\therefore$$Â Any two of three statements is sufficient.
