ANSWER: Rs.6
Solution: Let initial amount of sugar = x Kg
Let initial price of 1 Kg sugar = Rs. y
Total price = xy = 270........eqn.I (This is when he used to buy x Kgs, priced Rs. y per Kg in a total of Rs. 270)
Now, in the same amount, he can buy 5 more Kgs of sugar due to the reduction of price by 10 percent.
Reduced price = 90y/100
Amount of 1 Kg sugar after price reduction = x + 5
According to question, (x + 5) * (90y/100) = 270 .................eqn.II
Equating eqn.I and eqn.II, we get --->
xy = (x + 5) (90y/100)
x = (9x + 45)/10
10x - 9x = 45
x = 45
Putting the value of x in eqn.I, we get ------->
45y = 270
y = 270/45
y = 6
Since we had considered y as the initial price, the required answer is Rs. 6 per Kg.
