In the following figure, $$l \parallel m$$ and $$n$$ is a transversal. Find the value of $$(x + y)$$.
At line $$l$$, the angle $$x$$ is vertically opposite to the $$112^\circ$$ angle, so $$x = 112$$. The angle between line $$l$$ and the lower part of the transversal on the left is $$180^\circ - 112^\circ = 68^\circ$$, and $$y$$ is the corresponding angle at line $$m$$, so $$y = 68$$. Hence $$x + y = 112 + 68 = 180$$.
