Total distance = 24km
Distance covered=5/7 of Distance left
Time walked = 1hr 40 min =5/3hr
Lets take the speed as ‘x’kmph
Distance covered= speed X time
Distance=x X 5/3 hr
Distance=5x/3 km
remaining=total- covered
=(24-5x/3)
We know that
distance covered=5/7 of distance left
5x/3=5/7(24−5x/3)
5x/3=5/7 X (72−5x)/3
Further equating
7x=72−5x
12x=72
x=6 kmph
x=6 x518 m/s
x=5/3 m/s
x= 1.666….. m/s

Hi Abhilash,
I think the question should be "...5/7th of the remaining distance..."
In this case,
Distance travelled = d
Remaining distance = 24-d
So, d = 5/7 * (24 - d)
=> 7d = 120 - 5d => 12d = 120 => d = 10 km
Time = 5/3 hours
So, speed = 10/(5/3) = 6 kmph
