JEE Syllabus 2028

The JEE 2028 syllabus covers Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics at the Class 11 and 12 level for both stages of the examination. JEE Main 2028, conducted by NTA, follows a rationalized NCERT-aligned syllabus from which approximately 15% of topics were removed in recent restructuring. JEE Advanced 2028, set by one of the IITs, retains several of those removed topics and demands significantly greater conceptual depth. Critically, JEE Main is no longer a strict syllabus subset of JEE Advanced — IIT aspirants must cover topics that JEE Main no longer tests. This guide provides a complete corrected syllabus for both exams, highlights the highest-weightage topics, and outlines a realistic plan to complete preparation on time.

JEE Syllabus 2028 Overview

The table below summarizes the structural differences between JEE Main 2028 and JEE Advanced 2028. An important change since NTA's syllabus rationalization: JEE Main is no longer a strict subset of JEE Advanced. Several topics — including s-Block Elements, Metallurgy, States of Matter, and Binomial Distribution — were removed from JEE Main but are retained in JEE Advanced. IIT aspirants must study these topics regardless of their JEE Main status.

JEE Advanced 2028 Syllabus

JEE Advanced 2028 consists of two compulsory 3-hour papers. It covers all retained JEE Main topics at greater depth, and additionally includes several chapters that were deleted from JEE Main in the NTA rationalization but remain in the JAB syllabus. The table below lists these Advanced-exclusive topics alongside the areas where JEE Advanced demands significantly deeper treatment than JEE Main.

Subject

Topics Exclusive to JEE Advanced or Tested at Greater Depth

Physics

Error Analysis and Experimental Design (graph interpretation, least count, error propagation); Advanced Fluid Mechanics (viscosity, Bernoulli, surface tension — tested at greater depth than JEE Main basics); Variable mass systems; Non-inertial reference frames; Newton's Law of Cooling (deleted from JEE Main; retained in Advanced); Thermal Physics experiments and Carnot Cycle in depth

Chemistry

s-Block Elements in depth (deleted from JEE Main; retained in Advanced); Metallurgy and Isolation of Metals (deleted from JEE Main; retained in Advanced); States of Matter including Gaseous and Liquid State (deleted from JEE Main; retained in Advanced); Surface Chemistry and Adsorption (deleted from JEE Main; retained in Advanced); Polymers (deleted from JEE Main; retained in Advanced); Environmental Chemistry (deleted from JEE Main; retained in Advanced); Stereochemistry: chirality, enantiomers, diastereomers; Named Organic Reactions in depth (Aldol, Cannizzaro, Diels-Alder, Wittig); Qualitative Salt Analysis; Crystal Field Theory basics; Colligative Properties and Phase Equilibria; NOTE: Chemistry in Everyday Life is deleted from both exams

Mathematics

Binomial Distribution (deleted from JEE Main; retained in Advanced — note: Poisson Distribution is not part of either syllabus); Scalar and Vector Triple Products (deleted from JEE Main; retained in Advanced); Properties of Determinants beyond core operations (deleted from JEE Main; retained in Advanced); Functional Equations; Advanced Definite Integral properties; Pole-Polar and Chord of Contact for conics; NOTE: Mathematical Induction and Mathematical Reasoning are deleted from both exams and should not be studied for either

Cracku's JEE Question Bank provides topic-wise and difficulty-wise practice sets with step-by-step solutions to build the depth required for both papers.

Important Topics in JEE Syllabus 2028

Analysis of previous years' papers reveals consistent high-weightage chapters across both exams. In Physics, Mechanics accounts for 25 to 30% of JEE Advanced marks. In Chemistry, General Organic Chemistry is the foundational chapter that determines performance across all subsequent organic topics. In Mathematics, Calculus alone contributes 25 to 35% of JEE Advanced Mathematics marks. Prioritizing these chapters maximizes return on preparation time without sacrificing overall coverage.

JEE Main vs JEE Advanced Syllabus 2028

Candidates targeting IITs must prepare for JEE Advanced from the outset. Optimizing only for JEE Main and pivoting later is a costly mistake: the additional depth, problem types, and multi-concept demands of JEE Advanced require time that a late pivot cannot recover. JEE Main performance improves naturally from JEE Advanced-level preparation; the reverse is not reliably true.

NCERT Sufficiency

Rationalized NCERT covers approximately 85-90% of the syllabus

Rationalized NCERT is necessary but not sufficient; reference books and Advanced-specific topics essential

Preparation Time

12 to 18 months

18 to 24 months (concurrent with JEE Main)

How to Complete JEE 2028 Syllabus on Time

Aspirants beginning in Class 11 have approximately 24 months before JEE 2028. This is sufficient provided preparation follows a structured phase-wise plan with mandatory revision built in from Month 3 onwards. Solving previous year papers of both JEE Main and JEE Advanced is non-negotiable: they are the most reliable predictor of what the actual exam will test. Mock test analysis matters more than mock test volume — reviewing every error from 10 mocks is more valuable than taking 30 mocks without review.

Phase

When

Focus

Foundation

Class 11, Months 1-4

Cover all Class 11 NCERT thoroughly. Begin HC Verma or DC Pandey for Physics.

Consolidation

Class 11, Months 5-10

Complete Class 11 syllabus. Start topic-wise JEE Main practice. Address weak chapters.

Class 12 Buildup

Class 12, Months 1-6

Cover all Class 12 topics. Maintain Class 11 revision. Begin chapter-wise mock tests.

Integration

Class 12, Months 7-10

Full-length JEE Main mocks. Solve JEE Advanced previous year papers alongside.

Final Sprint

Last 3-4 months

Daily mocks, 2-day revision cycles, formula sheets. Analyse every test error.

JEE Syllabus 2028: Conclusion

The JEE 2028 syllabus spans Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics across Classes 11 and 12 for both exam stages. JEE Main follows a rationalized NCERT syllabus and tests 75 mandatory questions over 3 hours, with negative marking applying to both MCQs and Integer-type questions (+4/-1). JEE Advanced extends the same subjects to greater depth and retains several topics deleted from JEE Main, meaning IIT aspirants must cover a broader syllabus than JEE Main alone requires. The highest-priority areas remain Mechanics, Calculus, and Physical plus Organic Chemistry. Candidates targeting IITs should treat JEE Advanced as the primary preparation benchmark from Day 1 of Class 11. With a structured 24-month plan, consistent revision, and disciplined mock test analysis, completing the full syllabus on time is entirely achievable.
