A beaker contains acid ajd water in the ratio of 1:x .when 300 ml of the mixture and 50 ml of water are mixed,the ratio of acid and water becomes 2:5 .what is the value if x?

x=2 i.e. ratio of acid:water in the mixture was 1:2. What is happening here is that the mixture (300ml) is mixed with water(50ml) and the in the final solution (which would be 350ml), the ratio of acid:water =2:5.
Now, 2 units of acid + 5 units of water = total of 7units = 350ml
=>1unit = 50ml.
=> 2 units of acid = 100ml
Acid can come only from the original mixture. Hence, we can say that in 300ml of the mixture, 100ml was acid therefore water was 200ml.
So, acid : water = 100 ml : 200ml or 1:2.
