Question 82

There were 54 members of a cooperative society. How many members attended the recent Annual General Meeting (AGM)?
I. Normally two-third members attend the meeting.
II. One-sixth of the members were out of the town on AGM's day.

Solution

The first statement indicates the usual approximate figure, and not the actual number of people who attended the meeting, hence it is insufficient.

Similarly, the second statement states that 9 members were out of town, but of the remaining, we still do not know how many attended the meeting. Even after combining both statements, we cannot find the number of people who attended the meeting, hence both statements together are not sufficient.
