The bus fare between two cities is increased in the ratio 29:31. What is the increase in the fare, if the original fare is Rs 725

Solution

Let original fare = Rs. $$29x$$

=> New fare = Rs. $$31x$$

Also, original fare = $$725 = 29x$$

=> $$x = \frac{725}{29} = 25$$

$$\therefore$$ Increase in fare = $$31x - 29x = 2x $$

= $$2 \times 25 = Rs. 50$$
