A man, a woman and a boy together complete a piece of work in 3 days. If a man alone can do it in 6 days and a boy alone in 18 days, how long will a woman take to complete the work ?

Solution

Let the man's, woman's and boy's speed be x, y and z.
Let the piece of work be W.
Now, x+y+z = W/3
Also, x = W/6
and z=W/18
Therefore, y = W/3 - W/6 - W/18
y = W/9
Number of days required by woman alone to complete the work = W/y = W/(W/9)
Hence, number of days = 9
Therefore, the correct option is option A.
