The area of a rectangle is 180 cm$$^2$$ If the ratio of length and breadth of the rectangle is 5 : 4, then what is the length (in cm)of diagonal of the rectangle?

Solution

ratio of length and breadth of the rectangle is 5x : 4x

The area of a rectangle is 180 cm$$^2$$

area of the rectangle = $$ 5x \times 4x = 20x^2 $$

Solving x = 3

length = 15

breadth = 12

$$(diagonal)^2 = 15^2 + 12^2 $$

diagonal = $$ \sqrt {369} $$
