Question 75

Manoj decided to give 25% of his income to his son A and a certain amount to his son B. If he gave ₹2,208 to B which is 92% of the decided amount and is ₹1,542 less than the amount given to A, then what percent of his total income did Manoj decide to give his son B?

Solution

Let's assume the income of Manoj is 100y.

Manoj decided to give 25% of his income to his son A.

Money received by son A = 100y of 25% = 25y    Eq.(i)

Let's assume that Manoj decided to give Rs. 'z' to his son B.

If he gave ₹2,208 to B which is 92% of the decided amount.

z of 92% = 2208

$$z\times\frac{92}{100}=2208$$

$$z\times\frac{1}{100}=24$$

z = 2400

₹2,208 is ₹1,542 less than the amount given to A.

Money received by son A = 2,208+1,542

= 3750

From Eq.(i) 25y = 3750

100y = $$3750\times4$$

income of Manoj = 100y = 15000

Percent of his total income Manoj decides to give his son B = $$\frac{2400}{15000}\times\ 100$$

= $$\frac{240}{15}$$

= 16%
