The difference between a discount of 40% on Rs 500 and two successive discounts of 36%, and 4% on the same amount is
Discount of 40% on Rs. 500
= $$\frac{40}{100} \times 500 = 200$$
Two successive discounts of 36%, and 4% on Rs. 500
= $$\frac{36}{100} \times 500 = 180$$
Amount left = 500 - 180 = 320
=> $$\frac{4}{100} \times 320 = 12.8$$
Total discount = 180 + 12.8 = 192.8
$$\therefore$$ Required difference = $$200 - 192.8 = 7.2$$
