Question 65

X did a task for 24 days and left it incomplete. He could have finished the task all by himself in a total of 36 days. Y, who can finish the task alone in 18 days, will take how many more days to complete the remaining task?

Solution

X can do the whole task alone in 36 days.

Y can do the whole task alone in 18 days.

Let's assume the total work is 36 units.

Efficiency of X = $$\frac{36}{36}$$ = 1 unit/day

Efficiency of Y = $$\frac{36}{18}$$ = 2 units/day

X did a task for 24 days and left it incomplete. Y complete the remaining task.

Let's assume the number of days required by Y to complete the remaining task is 'd'.

$$24\times1+d\times2 = 36$$

24+2d = 36

12+d = 18

d = 18-12

d = 6 days
