A portion of a 30 m long tree is broken by a tornado and the top strikes the ground making an angle of 30º with the ground level. The height of the point where the tree is broken is equal to

Solution

Let the height of the point from the ground be h metres.

The hypotenuse formed = 30 - h

So, In right angled triangle,

sin 30 = perpendicular / hypotenuse = h/30-h

1/2 = h/30-h

On solving, we get h = 10 m
