Question 62

In a bag there are coins of ₹2, ₹5 and ₹10 denominations. The total number of coins in the bag is 300. If the number of coins of ₹2, ₹5 and ₹10 denominations are in the ratio of 1 : 2 : 3, then what is the total amount of money in the bag?

Solution

If the number of coins of ₹2, ₹5 and ₹10 denominations are in the ratio of 1 : 2 : 3.

Let's assume the number of coins of ₹2, ₹5 and ₹10 denominations are y, 2y, and 3y respectively.

The total number of coins in the bag is 300.

y+2y+3y = 300

6y = 300

y = 50

So the number of coins of ₹2, ₹5 and ₹10 denominations are 50, 100 and 150.

Total amount of money in the bag = $$50\times2+100\times5+150\times10$$

= 100+500+1500

= ₹2100
