A man can row 4.5 km/h in still water and he finds that it takes him twice as long to row up as to row down the river. Find the rate of the Stream.

Solution

Let speed of stream be $$x$$ km/hr

=> Downstream speed = $$(4.5+x)$$ km/hr and Upwnstream speed = $$(4.5-x)$$ km/hr

According to ques,

=> $$2\times(4.5-x)=1\times(4.5+x)$$

=> $$9-2x=4.5+x$$

=> $$3x=4.5$$

=> $$x=\frac{4.5}{3}=1.5$$

$$\therefore$$ Speed of stream =ย 1.5 km/hr

=>ย Ans - (A)
