The average speed of a car is 600 metres/minute. How much slower(in metres/second) does the car run than a sprinter who covers 100 metres in 9.6 seconds?
The average speed of a car is 600 meters/minute.
It means that a car can cover 600 meters in 60 seconds.
Then in the one-second car can cover 10 meters. So the speed of a car = 10 meters/second.  Eq.(i)
A sprinter who covers 100 meters in 9.6 seconds.
Speed of sprinter = $$\frac{100}{9.6}$$   Eq.(ii)
Difference between speeds = Eq.(ii) - Eq.(i)
=Â $$\frac{100}{9.6} - 10$$
=Â $$\frac{100-96}{9.6}$$
=Â $$\frac{4}{9.6}$$
=Â $$\frac{40}{96}$$
=Â $$\frac{5}{12}$$
So the car runs $$\frac{5}{12}$$ meters/second slower than the sprinter.
