Question 25

Which two signs should be interchanged in the following equation to make it correct?
$$24 \div 8 - 5 \times 5 + 3 = 13$$

Solution

$$24 \div 8 - 5 \times 5 + 3 = 13$$

$$\Rightarrow 3-5\times5+3 =-19 \neq 13$$

So, after interchanging the sign of $$\times$$ and $$+$$

$$\Rightarrow 24 \div 8 - 5 +5 \times 3 = 13$$

$$\Rightarrow 3 - 5 +5 \times 3 = 13$$

$$\Rightarrow 3 - 5 +15 = 13$$

$$\Rightarrow  - 5 +18 = 13$$

$$\Rightarrow - 13 = 13$$

Hence, after interchanging the sign of $$\times$$ and $$+$$ will get the correct.
