Question 121

The ratio of monthly salaries of two persons, A and B is 8 : 7. If the salary of A is increased by 20% and that of B by 10%, the new ratio becomes 96 : 77. What is A's salary ?

Solution

Let the salary of A be "a" and the salary of B is "b"

$$\frac{a}{b}$$ = $$\frac{8}{7}$$

Now , After 20% increment, salary of A becomes 1.2a

and after increment of 10% , salary of B becomes 1.1b

Given that $$\frac{1.2a}{1.1b}$$ = $$\frac{96}{77}$$, this implies that $$\frac{a}{b}$$ = $$\frac{8}{7}$$

As both the equations are giving same ratio and in no way the exact values of A and B can be found out .

Hence Option D is the correct answer
