Question 117

The total number of students in sections A and B ofa class is 72. The ratio of the number of students in A and B is 7: 5. The average weight(in kg) of the students in section B is 20% more than that of the studentsin section A.If the average weight of all the students in the class is 52 kg, then whatis the average weight (in kg) of the students in section B?

Solution

Total number of students in section A and B = 72 and ratio of students in A:B = 7:5

Let average weight of students in section A = $$10x$$ kg

=> Average weight of students in section B = $$12x$$ kg

Thus, required average of class (both sections) will be

=> $$\frac{(7\times10x)+(5\times12x)}{7+5}=52$$

=> $$70x+60x=624$$

=> $$x=\frac{624}{130}=4.8$$

$$\therefore$$ Average weight of students in section B = $$12\times4.8=57.6$$ kg

=> Ans - (C)
