Question 115

The garph of $$f(x) = x^2 - 5x + 6$$ is translated 2 units left and 12 units down to get h$$(x)$$. Express h$$(x)$$ in the form $$h(x) = ax^2 + bx + c$$.

Solution

When f(x) is shifted 2 units to left, it becomes f(x-2). Now, 12 units downwards would mean f(x-2) - 12

Hence, the new equations h(x) is $$\left(x-2\right)^2-5\left(x-2\right)\ +\ 6\ -12$$, which is $$x^2 - x - 12$$
