An incandescent light bulb produces light with a tungsten-wire filament heated to a high temperature by an electric current passing through it until it glows. The hot filament is protected from oxidation with a glass bulb that is either evacuated or filled with inert gas. There are two types of constructions of incandescent light bulbs, one entailing a low vacuum and one that is filled with the inert gas. The gas used is either Nitrogen or Argon.
