Hi shreya,
I hope your XAT went well. Answering for the reference of aspirants of upcoming year.
If you ask me, I believe in probability.
If there are 18 answered questions.
If you leave them that way, your expected score is -1.
If you randomly mark 10 questions, your expected score is 0.
Hence, more often than not, the probability is likely to work in your favour.
Yet, end of day, it is a gamble, there is some likelihood of this backfiring too.
Hence, it is one's personal decision whether to attend the questions are not.
XAT usually has 3rd, 4th and 5th options recurring. If it were upto me, I would pick the 10 additional questions and mark 4 for all of them.
In any case, this is not an ideal advice for long term and it is risky for serious aspirants.
Hence be cautious and diligent.
