In the year 1918 father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi along with Anasuya Sarabhai and Shankerlal Banker founded the Ahmadabad textile labour association. This association is still one of the oldest labour associations in India and they have their first meeting on the banks of Sabarmati River where 10 thousand labours were present. Anasuya Sarabhai was the first women trade union leader of the country. As a founder of the Ahmedabad Textile Labour Association, she is the pioneer of the labour movement in India.
