IIM Ranchi IPM Cut Off 2026
Unlike other IIMs across India, IPM Ranchi does not have its own entrance examination. IPM Ranchi considers the exam score from IPMAT 2026, conducted by IIM Indore, instead. The "cut off" refers to the minimum score that must be obtained in order to receive an invitation to interview in person for IIM Ranchi. The cut off for the year 2026 is expected to be slightly higher than previous years due to the increasing number of individuals taking the exam.
In this blog, we will cover the information about IIM Ranchi IPM Cut Off 2026 which includes minimum cutoff required for admission, previous year cutoff trends and factors affecting the cutoff.
What is the minimum cutoff for IIM Ranchi?
For IIM Ranchi, there are two separate cut-offs that you need to pass through. They are
Minimum Eligibility Cut-off:
This is the minimum requirement to apply. You will need:
- General/NC-OBC/EWS: A minimum of 60% in both Class 10 & 12.
- SC/ST/PwD:Â A minimum of 55% in both Class 10 & 12.
Minimum Shortlisted Cut-off:
The Minimum shortlisted cut-off refers to the lowest score required to qualify for the next selection stage which is Personal Interview. For the upcoming 2026-31 batch IPM program admissions, minimum cutoff for general category is expected raw score to be between 185 to 205 out of 360. For OBC-NC, SC and ST categories, minimum cutoff is expected raw score to be between 125-140, 95-105 and 50-60 respectively.
Here’s the IPMAT Indore exam pattern which was entrance test for IIM Ranchi IPM admissions:
Section | Number of Questions | Time Limit | Marks | Marking Scheme |
Quantitative Aptitude (SA) | 15 | 40 mins | 60 | +4,0 |
Quantitative Aptitude (MCQ) | 30 | 40 mins | 120 | +4, – 1 |
Verbal Ability | 45 | 40 mins | 180 | +4, – 1 |
Total | 90 | 120 mins | 360 |
Unlike IIM Indore, there are no official sectional cut-offs at IIM Ranchi for the first shortlist. So, unlike IIM Indore, where a low score in Quantitative Ability (Short Answer) could "disqualify" you, IIM Ranchi is concerned with your Total Score.
This is why many students who are "Verbal-heavy" or who do not perform well in higher-level maths, but who can cover up the score in other sections of the test, like to apply to IIM Ranchi.

Factors Affecting IPM Ranchi Cut Off
Due to the following different factors, the passing score for IPM varies from year to year which makes Cutoff hard to predict:
Difficulty Level of the IPMAT Indore Exam:
The examination being administered by IIM Indore means that if there is a very difficult Quant section this year, then raw score cutoffs for all categories will likely be lower.
The quantity of applicants:
The IPMAT 2021 exam had approximately 15,000 applicants, but that number is projected as 35,000+ applicants by the year 2026.
Availability of seats:
Currently, IIM Ranchi has an availability of 120 seats and any increase or decrease in the amount of seat availability will affect the cutoffs.
Academic Weightage:
Currently, Class XII and Class X together make up 20% of the criteria for the selection into the program at IIM Ranchi. A year where we have higher percentages of students receiving higher grading will result in higher average composite scores.
Performance of each section – If the Verbal section of the exam is on the easier side, we will have a higher average score and will result in higher cutoff.
Government Reservation Policies:
The IIM Ranchi IPM cutoff are calculated in category-wise as per the Government of India policies which may vary according to vacancies and number of applicants within each category:
- 27% for NC-OBC
- 15% for SC
- 7.5% for ST
- 10% for EWS
- 5% for PWD (Horizontal Reservation)
How to Improve Your Chances if You Are Near the IPM Ranchi Cut Off
The candidates need to understand the calculation behind the final composite score used for preparing the final consolidated merit list. The Consolidated Merit List would be compiled on the basis of the following components and their corresponding weights:
Final Composite Score Component | Weightage |
Admission Test Score | 65% |
PI Score | 15% |
Academic Profile | 20% |
Gender Diversity | 5% |
Total | 100% |
For those who are close to meeting the IPM Cutoff, do not be afraid. Your 20% Academics and 15% Interview means that the game is still not over.
Prepare Well for thePersonal Interview (PI):
The Personal Interview (PI) counts for 15% of your overall score; a student may have scored poorly on their IPMAT but if they can have an excellent, high confidence interview, then it is likely they will beat someone with a top IPMAT but has struggled during the interview. So you should focus on the following topics:
- Current Affairs & General Knowledge
- Consistency of Academics - and be prepared to talk about your favourite subjects
- Career Goals
Use The No-Sectional-Cutoff Rule:
Because IIM Ranchi considers total score, you can build on your strengths. If you are weak in Quant, then spend some more time during your preparation in perfecting the Verbal Ability portion of the test. For instance, if you score 130 or more on Verbal; then you can offset a Quant score of 40.
Have Your Academics In Order:
While you cannot change your past marks, you can make sure that they are calculated properly. Have your 10th and 12th grade certificates available. If you have a combined total of 85%+ you will have already outperformed about 60% of the total applicants applying in the area of "Academics”.
Use The Diversity Factor:
IIM Ranchi actively encourages female/gender diversity on campus; and therefore gives female and transgender candidates 5 bonus points when calculating a total composite score. This gives a substantial bump and helps female/transgender candidates.
