CAT is basically an aptitude test. It is not a very tough exam, but it is not easy either (particularly if you're not thorough with the basics). It is possible to prepare for this exam at home, but it requires coaching/guidance. Enrolling in online cat coaching helps. You would be having guidance and a peer group to discuss your doubts.
Go through the previous papers of CAT, take the free mocks and see if you need improvement in any areas. If you're weak in more than one section, coaching is definitely recommended.
