What is XAT Score?
The XAT score is the sum of a candidate’s XAT total marks acquired based on the scheme representing the XAT exam pattern. Simply put, the total number of marks earned by applicants in all four sections: Verbal and Logical Ability, Decision Making, Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation, and General Knowledge. Candidates can use the procedure outlined below to compute their XAT scores.
- A +1 mark will be given for each correct answer.
- -0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.
- For each question that is not attempted, 0.10 marks will be deducted.
- Total marks (by category) – The total marks are calculated based on the answers given by the candidates to the questions.

How to calculate the XAT Score?
For the XAT exam, there are a total of 99 questions. If you leave more than 8 questions unanswered, you will receive a 0.10 mark penalty for each question left unanswered. For example, if you leave 10 questions unanswered, you will receive 0.10 points as a penalty for the first 8 unanswered questions. If you leave 18 questions unanswered, you will be punished 0.20 points.
Note: Keep in mind that incorrect attempts at negative marking can result in lower total scores and a lower XAT sectional and overall cutoff.
What is XAT Percentile?
A XAT percentile is a measurement of the percentage of candidates on the rank/merit list who are lower than a candidate. For example, if a candidate scores in the 90th percentile, it means that 90 percent of the applicants who competed with him/her in the examination scored lower than him/her. In other words, the XAT percentile is a performance-based metric used to identify candidates.
As a result, individuals who scored 90 percent or higher on the XAT refer to the top 10% of candidates on the qualifying list. The candidate’s position is determined only by the protected percentile based on the marks achieved. This, however, does not specify the precise marks obtained in the test.
How to calculate the XAT Percentile?
The XAT 2022 percentile will be derived using the scaled score of each category from which questions will be asked, as well as the overall scaled score. The XAT 2022 result total scorecard will show the applicants’ overall and sectional scores, as well as their XAT percentile.
Let’s look at an example to see how the XAT percentile is calculated. Here’s an example of a percentile computation for the Verbal and Logical Ability part.
Step 1: The first step is to determine the total number of candidates (N) who may take the XAT entrance exam in both sessions, i.e. Shift 1 and Shift 2 in the morning.
Step 2: Assign a ranking (r) to all XAT candidates based on their measured score in the Verbal and Logical Ability segment.
Step 3: Determine the candidate’s percentile score (P) and ranking (r) in the Verbal and Logical Ability portion as follows:
P = ((N-r)/N) x 100
Step 4: Now, just round up a candidate’s determined percentile score (b) to two decimal points. All percentile points larger than or equal to 89.995 percent, for example, are rounded to 90 percent.

Some students wonder how many marks they received on the Xavier Aptitude Test, which ranged from 70 to 90 percent.
