The first step towards getting admission into the IIM Calcutta is taking the Common Admission Test (CAT) exam. Every year over two lakh candidates appear for the CAT exam. The selection criteria at the IIMC are based on the CAT score, Overall academic record, Work experience, Gender diversity, and the performance of the candidate in the Written Ability Test (WAT) and the Personal Interview (PI). The Common Selection process at the Top IIMs
The selection process at the top IIMs is broadly divided into two stages. Let us check out the stages in the selection process at the Top IIMs in detail.
Stage 1: Candidates are shortlisted for the interviews on the basis of their CAT score, and other factors like the academic record, work experience, etc, and interview letters are sent to the shortlisted candidate.
Parameters for selection in stage 1:
1. CAT Percentile
2. Academics (10th, 12th, and Graduation scores)
3. Work experience
4. Gender Diversity
Stage 2: The second stage is where the colleges select based on WAT-PI. A Composite Score is calculated for the Final Selection. The composite score of each candidate is calculated (usually out of 100) based on certain parameters, and the final selection list will be made.
Admission criteria of IIM Calcutta
IIMC is known for its culture, and it’s also known for the less emphasis it places on academics while shortlisting candidates for the interview. So, if you get a very good CAT score, you have a good chance of getting a call from IIMC.

From the candidates satisfying the criteria of the CAT Cutoffs, shortlisted candidates will be called for Personal Interview (PI) based on the composite score derived using the components and the corresponding weights as specified in the below table:

Stage 2: Final Selection
For the candidates appearing in Stage II, a composite score for final selection will be derived using the parameters and the corresponding weights listed in the below table. This composite score will be used for the preparation of a category-wise merit list.

Work Experience
For work experience, a maximum of eight points will be awarded based on the length of service (in completed months). However, only managerial work experience after completion of a bachelor’s degree will be considered. Training/Project work/work done as an integral part of curricular requirement will not be considered.
