A cube of side 5m is melted to form 'x' cubes of side 1m, y cubes of side 2m and z' cubes of side 3m. If it is given that x, y and z are distinct natural numbers, find the difference between the minimum and maximum no. of total cubes which can be casted. This is the XAT Geometry-2 live class question no. 7. I think the process followed was wrong as there can't be more than one 3x3x3 cube visually in the 5x5x5 cube (As was done in the minimum case where in 27z, z was taken as 4, in 8y, y was taken as 2 and finally x was taken as 1), I agree with the maximum case where I got 85 cubes too, but the minimum case is not digestible..

Bro, I understand it might not be possible to visualize that we can make multiple cubes if the cube was not melted, but if the cube is melted then any part left after taking 1 3x3x3 cube from the 5x5x5 cube is available to make another 3x3x3 cube. Think of it as first cutting the 5x5x5 cube into 125 small cubes of 1x1x1 and then using these to form the 2x2x2 and 3x3x3 cubes. Might help.<br>
