3 numbers whose average is 112, the first number is 1/6th the sum of other 2. What is the first number?

Solution

Let the three numbers be $$x,y,z$$

Sum of three numbers = $$x + y + z = 112 \times 3 = 336$$

According to ques, => $$x = \frac{1}{6} \times (y + z)$$

=> $$x = \frac{1}{6} \times (336 - x)$$

=> $$6x = 336 - x$$

=> $$6x + x = 7x =336$$

=> $$x = \frac{336}{7} = 48$$

=> Ans - (D)
