Question 79

An article is listed at Rs 2375. A man purchases it at two successive discounts of 50% and 25% and spends Rs 165 on repairing of article. If he sells the article at a profit of 62.5%, then what is the selling price (in Rs) of the article?

Solution

List price = Rs. 2375

After first discount of 50%, price = $$2375-(\frac{50}{100}\times2375)=Rs.$$ $$1187.5$$

After second discount of 25%, price = $$1187.5-(\frac{25}{100}\times1187.5)=Rs.$$ $$890.625$$

Amount spent on repairing = Rs. 165

=> Total cost price for the man = $$890.625+165=Rs.$$ $$1055.625$$

Profit % = 62.5%

$$\therefore$$ Selling price = $$1055.625\times\frac{162.5}{100}$$

$$\approx Rs.$$ $$1715.39$$

=> Ans - (C)
