Question 74

Two trains start at same time from stations A and B, 1800 km apart, and proceed towards each other at an average speed of 44 km/h and 46 km/h, respectively. Where will the trains meet?

Solution

Given,

Distance between two stations A and B = 1800 km

Average speed of train that start from station A = 44 km/h

Average speed of train that start from station B = 46 km/h

Both trains are moving in opposite direction

$$=$$>  Relative Speed = 44+46 = 90 km/h

Time after which they meet = $$\frac{\text{Distance}}{\text{Relative Speed}}$$

$$=\frac{1800}{90}$$

$$=$$ 20 hr

Distance travelled by train that started from station A in 20 hr = 44 x 20 = 880 km

Distance travelled by train that started from station B in 20 hr = 46 x 20 = 920 km

$$\therefore\ $$Meeting point from station A = 880 km

Meeting point from station B = 920 km

Hence, the correct answer is Option D
