Question 74

Two students, A and B, appeared for an examination. A secured 8 marks more than B and the marks of the former was 60% of the sum of their marks. The sum of the marks obtained by A and B is:

Solution

given that marks scored by A= 8+B

also given that former has scored 60% of total score

$$A=\frac{60}{100}(A+B)$$

$$A=\frac{6}{10}(A+B)$$

10A = 6A + 6B

4A = 2B

But , A = 8 + b (given)

4(B + 8) = 6B

B = 16

A = 16 + 8 = 24
sum of the marks obtained by A and B  is 24+16=40

hence answer is C
