Question 73

Two trains are moving in opposite directions with speeds of 35 m/s and 45 m/s respectively. From the time they are 12 km apart, how much time would they take to cross each other?

When both of the trains are moving in the opposite direction to each other, then their speed will be added.

Time taken to cross each other = $$\frac{12\times1000}{35+45}$$

= $$\frac{12\times1000}{80}$$

= $$\frac{3\times100}{2}$$

= $$\frac{300}{2}$$

= 150 seconds

= $$\frac{150}{60}$$ minutes

= 2.5 minutes

= 2 minutes 30 seconds
