Question 69

In a class of 60 students, the ratio of girls to boys is 2 : 3. If 20 more girls join the class, then what is the new number of girls in the class?

Solution

In a class of 60 students, the ratio of girls to boys is 2 : 3.

Number of girls initially in the class = $$60\times\ \frac{2}{\left(2+3\right)}$$

= $$60\times\frac{2}{5}$$

= $$12\times2$$

= 24

If 20 more girls join the class, then the new number of girls in the class = 24+20

= 44
