Question 64

In university exams where the total maximum marks were 500, Mohit gets 20% more than Surendra, Surendra gets 20% more than Lalit, and Lalit gets 15% less than Darshan. If Mohit gets 366 marks, what percentage of the full marks does Darshan get? [Give your answer correct to 2 decimal places.]

Solution

Lalit gets 15% less than Darshan.

Let's assume the marks got by Darshan is '100y'.

marks got by Lalit = 100y of (100-15)%

= 100y of 85%

= $$100y\times\frac{85}{100}$$

= 85y

Surendra gets 20% more than Lalit

marks got by Surendra = 85y of (100+20)%

= 85y of 120%

= $$85y\times\frac{120}{100}$$

= 102y

Mohit gets 20% more than Surendra.

marks got by Mohit = 102y of (100+20)%

= 102y of 120%

= $$102y\times\frac{120}{100}$$

= 122.4y

If Mohit gets 366 marks.

So 122.4y = 366

$$y=\frac{366}{122.4}$$

$$y=\frac{3660}{1224}$$
marks got by Darshan = 100y = $$\frac{3660}{1224}\times100$$
= $$\frac{366000}{1224}$$

Percentage of the full marks Darshan got = $$\frac{\frac{366000}{1224}}{500}\times\ 100$$

= $$\frac{366000}{1224\times\ 500}\times\ 100$$

= $$\frac{366000}{6120}$$

= 59.80% (approx.)
