Question 63

Renuka got $$1\frac{1}{2}$$ times as many marks in mathematics as in English. Her total marks in mathematics, English and science are 190. If the ratio of the marks in mathematics and science is 2:3, find her science marks.

Renuka got $$1\frac{1}{2}$$ times as many marks in mathematics as in English.

Let's assume the marks got by Renuka in English is 2y.

marks got by Renuka in mathematics = $$1\frac{1}{2}\times 2y$$

= $$\frac{3}{2}\times 2y$$

= 3y

If the ratio of the marks in mathematics and science is 2:3.

marks got by Renuka in science = $$\frac{3y}{2}\times\ 3$$

= $$\frac{9y}{2}$$

= 4.5y

Her total marks in mathematics, English and science are 190.

3y+2y+4.5y = 190

9.5y = 190

y = 20

Her marks in science = 4.5y

= $$4.5\times20$$

= 90
