In a class of 50 students there are 27 girls. The average weight of these girls is 45 kg and average weight of the full class is 49.6 kgs. What is the average weight of the boys of the class?

Solution

Total number of students = 50 and number of girls = 27

=> Number of boys in class = 50 - 27 = 23

Average weight of girls = 45 kg

=> Total weight of girls = $$45 \times 27 = 1215$$ kg

Similarly, total weight of full class = $$49.6 \times 50 = 2480$$ kg

=> Total weight of boys = 2480 - 1215 = 1265 kg

$$\therefore$$ Average weight of boys = $$\frac{1265}{23} = 55$$ kg

=> Ans - (A)
