Question 56

Study the given table and answer the question that follows.
The table shows the population of three cities P, Q and R, as percentages of the total population of these three cities taken together. It also shows the percentage of the population above 60 years of age in each of these cities, and also the ratio of males to females below 60 years of age, in each of these cities. The total population of all the three cities taken together is 3,00,000.

Find the male population of city R that is below 60 years.

Solution

total population of all the three cities taken together is 3,00,000.

(45+30+25)% = 300000

100% = 300000

1% = 3000

population of city R = 25% = $$25\times3000$$

= 75000

population of city R that is below 60 years = 75000 of (100-40)%

= 75000 of 60%

= $$75000\times\frac{60}{100}$$

= 45000

male population of city R that is below 60 years = $$45000\times\frac{12}{12+13}$$

= $$45000\times\frac{12}{25}$$

= $$1800\times 12$$

= 21600
