Question 43

Two students appeared for an examination. One of them secured 22 marks more than the other and his marks were 55% of the sum of their marks. The marks obtained by them are _______.

Solution

Let marks scored by 1st student = $$x$$

=> Marks scored by another student = $$(x + 22)$$

According to question, => $$(x + 22) = \frac{55}{100} \times (x + x + 22)$$

=> $$x + 22 = \frac{11}{10} \times (x + 11)$$

=> $$10x + 220 = 11x + 121$$

=> $$x = 220 - 121 = 99$$

$$\therefore$$ Marks scored by other student = 99 + 22 = 121
