A body of mass 10 kg is moving with an initial speed of 20 m s$$^{-1}$$. The body stops after 5 s due to friction between body and the floor. The value of the coefficient of friction is: (Take acceleration due to gravity $$g = 10$$ m s$$^{-2}$$)
Body of mass 10 kg, initial speed 20 m/s, stops in 5 s due to friction.
Find deceleration.
$$ a = \frac{v - u}{t} = \frac{0 - 20}{5} = -4 \text{ m/s}^2 $$Find coefficient of friction.
The friction force causes deceleration: $$f = \mu mg = ma$$
$$ \mu = \frac{|a|}{g} = \frac{4}{10} = 0.4 $$The answer is Option D: 0.4.
