In ΔPQR, S and T are points on side PQ and PR respectively. ST is parallel to QR. If S divides PQ in the ratio 1:5 and length of QR is 15 cm, find ST?

Solution

ST is parallel to QR

Let PS = $$x$$ and SQ = $$5x$$

=> $$\frac{PS}{PQ} = \frac{ST}{QR}$$

=> $$\frac{x}{x + 5x} = \frac{ST}{15}$$

=> $$\frac{1}{6} = \frac{ST}{15}$$

=> $$ST = \frac{15}{6} = 2.5$$ cm
