Question 2

A crate of egg holds one rotten egg out of every 25 egg in it. If 5 out of 8 rotten eggs are unusable and there are total 10 unusable eggs in the crate, then calculate the number of eggs in the crate.

Solution

Number of unusable eggs = 10

Number of rotten eggs for 5 unusable eggs = 8

=> Number of rotten eggs for 10 unusable eggs = $$\frac{8}{5}\times10=16$$

Ratio of rotten eggs to total eggs = 1 : 25

=> Total number of eggs in the crate = $$\frac{25}{1}\times16=400$$

=> Ans - (B)
