In a city, there are M1, M2, M3, M4, M5 and M6 modes available for commuting. Out of the total number of commuters commuting daily in a city, 17171 commuters commute only by M1 daily. 7359 commuters commute only by M2 and 22077 commuters commute only by M3. 14718 commuters commute only by M4 and 4906 commuters commute only byM5, 7359 commuters commute only by M6. 26983 commuters commute by M3 as well as M1 daily .9812 commuters commute by M5 as well as M1 daily. 12265 commuters commute by M3 as well as M5 daily.

Question 156

The total number of commuters commuting by-M1 form what percent of the total number of commuters commuting daily?

Solution

We need to find the total number of commuters. Since the initial values are for one mode only, the later values that use two modes are exclusive and not part of those.

To find the total number of commuters, we need to add all the values given:

17171+7359+22077+14718+4906+7359+26983+9812+12265 = 122110

The number of commuters that use M1 would be 17171(M1 only) + 26983 (M1+M3) + 9812 (M1+M5) = 53966

The percentage would be $$\frac{53966}{122110}\times\ 100\approx\ 44$$

Therefore, Option B is the correct answer.
