Pipes A and can fill an empty tank in 6 and 8 hours respectively, while pipe C can empty the full tank in 10 hours. If all three pipes are opened together, then the tank will get filled in:

Solution

Pipe A Capacity in 1 hours = $$\dfrac{1}{6}$$

Pipe B Capacity in 1 hour = $$ \dfrac{1}{8}$$

Pipe C capacity in 1 hour = $$ - \dfrac{1}{10} $$

So if all Pipe are opened together then 

$$ \dfrac{1}{6}+\dfrac{1}{8}-\dfrac{1}{10}$$

$$\Rightarrow \dfrac{20+15-12}{120}$$

$$\Rightarrow \dfrac{23}{120}$$

Time Taken = $$\dfrac{120}{23}$$

$$\Rightarrow 5 \dfrac{5}{23}$$ hours Ans
