    What to Expect in an IIM Interview?

    You can expect to be tested in the following ways:

    GD rounds

    GD stands for group discussion and this method is used by many employers, institutes and individuals for assessing candidates on their communication, knowledge and ability to collaborate in a group setting. It involves giving a topic to 8-12 candidates sitting in a group. Further, the candidates can gather their thoughts and start the discussion on the given topic in first 2 minutes and then you have to discuss it for 8-12 min. The panelist observes the candidates carefully. Not all the IIMs conduct GD round in the interview process but there are some colleges such as XLRI, IIM Shillong conduct GD in their interview process.

    PI rounds

    PI stands for the personal interview round. GD round is followed by PI round. It is an important stage in the IIM admission criteria. It involves one on one interaction between the candidate and the interviewer. Further, the interview questions can be customized based on the candidate’s response so as to asses a candidate’s fitness for the program. Candidates should be prepared for the interview as questions in this round usually comes from academics, work experience, extra curricular activities etc.

    The WAT round

    WAT stands for the Written Ability Test that may or may not be included in the post CAT admission processes. It depends on the institute’s selection criteria. WAT is basically an essay that is to be written by the candidate on a given topic. Further, the duration provided to write the essay is around 20-30 minutes.

    Extempore

    Not all B schools include extempore in their interview process but there are certain premium B schools that do include extempore in their interview. These Non IIM colleges include IIFT Delhi, FMS etc. In extempore you will be given some topic and you have to think on that for 2 min and than you have to speak on it for the next 2-3 minutes.

    Tips and Tricks to Prepare for IIM Interview Round

    Be a Good Listener

    Listening to the question well and answering accordingly is very important. If you do not listen well then you won’t be able to give appropriate answers. Further, make sure to provide clear and straightforward answers that are to the point.

    Improve Your Communication Skills

    Make sure you have a good hold on your English. Moreover, using a great vocabulary and appropriate hand gestures is necessary for an improved performance. In fact, make a comfortable eye contact and speak fluently.

    Stay Updated

    You must read newspaper regularly, watch news on tv or internet and make sure that your GK is up to date. As, many questions can be asked to check your general awareness.

    Revise Your Academic Learnings

    You can be questioned about your degree and the subjects you’re passionate about. Thus, you must brush upon your academic concepts. So that you can tackle any questions related to academics.
